Ambien 5mg / Ambien 10mg Tablets Chemical Name: ZOLPIDEM (zole-PI-dem) Chemical composition of Ambien, zolpidem is N,N,6-trimethyl-2-p-toyl-imidazo(1,2,-a)pyridine-3-acetamide L-(+)-tartrate (2:1). Ambien; Zolpidem tartrate, is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic of the imidazopyridine class and is available in 5 mg and 10 mg strenth tablets for oral administration Zolpidem tartrate is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is sparingly soluble in water, alcohol, and propylene glycol. Common Uses Ambien is a sedative-hypnotic used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep). Before using this drug DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking ritonavir. Directions AMBIEN WORKS VERY QUICKLY; take this medicine right before going to bed. Use it only when you will be able to sleep 7 to 8 hours or longer. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. Cautions Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to this medicine. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine. Possible Side effects: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include daytime drowsiness or dizziness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If you take too much: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include difficulty breathing, clumsiness, slowed heart rate, and deep sleep from which you cannot be awakened.
