Digital Mammography does not exceed The Conventional Detection of Tumors

The New England Journal of Medicine today published two studies and an editorial that show the benefits of the mammography as screening for breast cancer. The digital only offers benefits, with regard to the conventional, in children under 50 years, in breasts radiologically dense and before and after menopause.

The diagnostic accuracy global digital mammography and of the conventional as a method of screening for breast cancer is similar, but the digital is more accurate in the age of 50 years, which have breasts radiological more dense and pre or perimenopausal, according to a study published today in The New England Journal of Medicine.

The conventional mammography has a limited sensitivity for detection of breast cancer in women with breast radiological dense. The team of Etta Pisano, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has studied whether the use of digital mammography could avoid some of these limitations.
