Malaria: Precautions For Travel To Tropical Areas

Chloroquine and Mefloquine are taken once a week (before, during the trip and four weeks after having left the area malarial). The Doxycycline is taken daily. The chloroquine, is a medication inexpensive, easy to get and harmless, was the drug of choice against malaria during much of the twentieth century, was distributed throughout the world in massive quantities and even was added to the salt in some countries.
