Written Prescriptions for Hydrocodone containing Medications such as Lortab and Norco?

Phentermine : Lortab : Xanax : Valium : Lorcet
Hydrocodone : Oxycontin : Oxycodone : Weight Loss

Will Pharmacies Require a Written Prescription for Hydrocodone?

I have been informed by a physician colleague of mine that the DEA will soon be changing hydrocodone to a class 2 medication (which is the same class as Percocet). This means that doctors will no longer be able to "call in" hydrocodone, lortab, norco and all of the medications containing hydrocodone and a WRITTEN prescription will be required. This means that it will be as controlled as Percocet is.

Ofcourse this concerns me. You never see Percocet or any other Class 2 narcotics available on OP sites....will this mean the same fate for hydrocodone? I'm not sure, but I certainly hope not.

At best, it will mean that our medications will be more costly. The doctors MIGHT be allowed to FEDEX the written prescription to the pharmacies. That would mean an extra day wait time and ofcourse the added cost of physical delivery of the prescription to the pharmacy. Let's hope that this will be the only inconvenience. It COULD be worse.

I hate to be the barer of bad news (or possible bad news), but I think its better that we know ahead of time so that we can plan and maybe prepare in some way for it. I would HATE to find out that hydrocodone is inaccessible when I only have 5 pills left in my bottle. I'd rather have time to prepare.

I'm a nurse, so I might hear some things earlier than most. I will do my best to keep you informed.

Try not to panic.....just hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.

If I might get on my little soapbox for a minute: My political affiliation is Libertarian. I believe that this SHOULD be a country of freedom. Unfortunately, our liberties in many ways have been squashed, particularly when it comes to our choice for healthcare or self treatment. There are other countries in this world where it is perfectly legal to self-prescribe. There is NO reason why this country should control our rights to do as we wish with our own health and body. I never would have thought that I'd have to go to another country in order to have more rights to my body and what I do with it. Don't get me wrong, I love my country!!! We are the greatest country on Earth, but we need to fight for our rights to liberty!!!!! As a health care provider, I do NOT CONDONE OR ADVISE abuse of any drug, but as an American, I defend the rights and FREEDOM of any ADULT to use ANY substance made by God or man for their OWN body be it therapeutic OR abusive (it IS their body isn't it?). Consider joining or at least learning more about the Libertarian party and our fight for Freedom and Liberty. Imagine a TRULY FREE country where you can live ANYWAY you want to live and use medications as YOU see fit without threat of imprisonment. A physician should be a healthcare CONSULTANT AND ADVISOR NOT A DICTATOR. After all, who knows better what our bodies need THAN WE DO? Neither physicians nor the government have any right to DICTATE what we do with our bodies.

I wish you all much health and happiness and many pain free days!
